NPR, WNYC and WBEZ Announce First Ever Podcast Upfront

Public Radio Heavyweights Demonstrate Why Listening is Believing

April 27, 2015; Washington, DC – NPR, WBEZ and WNYC, the major public radio players in the podcast space, will showcase the reach and influence of their podcasts at the industry’s first-ever podcast upfront this week in New York City. This unique opportunity for brands and agencies to learn about one of the fastest-growing platforms for audio will be held on Wednesday, April 29th from 5 to 7pm at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City.

This podcast upfront will bring together the storytellers and producers responsible for six of the top 10 most downloaded podcasts in 2014, including Serial, This American Life, Radiolab,Freakonomics Radio, Invisibilia, and Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me. Glynn Washington, from Snap Judgment, and Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad will host the event and will share the stage with This American Life creator Ira Glass, Serial executive producer Julie Snyder, and TED Radio Hour’s Guy Raz; there will be a musical performance by Lord Huron.

Highlights of newly commissioned research by Edison Research on the preferences and behaviors of the public radio podcast audience will also be revealed.

Podcast listening exploded during the last year and podcast sponsorship has become a new and uncluttered platform for brands to reach the desirable millennial audience.

“Public radio is in a unique position to deliver podcast audiences to sponsors," said Tom Webster, vice president, strategy and marketing at Edison Research. “Our new research shows that amongst all monthly podcast listeners, 62% have listened to at least one public radio podcast in the last month. In addition, 46% of 25-44 year-old public radio podcast listeners consider public radio podcasts to be essential listening.”

The event is invitation-only.
